Children of Edwin Percy and Caroline Henry

Ethel May 1903 -

Ethel May was born January 2,1903 at 19, Coventry Street, Bethnal Green. She married Albert Henry Vasbeneter March 6, 1926 in Hackney Register Office. Ethel was 23 year old and Albert 31, the son of Louis Duncan Vasbenter, a retired compositor. At the time of the marriage Ethel was living at 102, Navarino Mansions and Albert, who was working as a shipping clerk, at 41, St. Phillips Road, Dalston. Witnesses were Ethel's father, Edwin Percy and Albert's father, Louis Vasbenter. They had (up to 1929) one child, Albert Louis, born in 1929.

Percy Edwin 1908 - 1988

Percy Edwin was born March 13, 1908 at 102, Navarino Mansions, Dalston Lane. He married Emily Florence Bull July 10, 1937 in the Parish Church of St. Mary's, Stoke Newington. He was 29 years old and Emily 28, the daughter of James Bull (deceased) who had been a joiner. Percy was living at 47, Chesholme Road, Stoke Newington and working as a taxi driver, and Emily was living at 18a, Beodia Road, Stoke Newington. Witnesses were A.F.Bull and W.H.Simmons. They had 4 children. In October, 1938 Percy and Emily were living at 43, Montague Road, Hackney. He joined the Royal Air Force, Cardington, January 22, 1941, Service No. 1216446. His description on entry was: height 5'10", hair dark brown, eyes blue and a fresh complextion. Other distinguishing marks were a scar centre forehead and a mole above the right ankle. His civilian occupation is given as a labourer. His wife was then staying at the Globe Inn, Newbury, Berkshire. During 1941 he served as a Driver MT at 2RC Cardington, 3RC Padgate and in September at Kenley. James Edward was born September 4, 1941 at Bragborough Hall Maternity Home, Rugby, where he died four days later. Cause of death was Melaena Neonatorum. Percy was posted to India February 11, 1942. (India was re-named SE Asia in November 1943. He returned to 15 Base March 14, 1945 and released Class A February 28, 1946. Richard James was born September 14, 1946 at the Salvation Mother's Hospital, 153, Lower Clapton Road, Hackney. Percy was working as a taxi driver, and both he and Emily were living at 19, Woodberry Avenue, Winchmore Hill. Janet May and Jean Caroline were born April 14, 1948 at North Middlesex County Hospital. Janet arrived at 8.30am and Jean at 8.40am. Percy died November 22, 1988 age 80, at the North Middlesex Hospital, Enfield. Cause of death was Congestive Cardiac Failure and Cerebrovascular Accident. He and his Emily had been living at 22, Highfield Road, Winchmore Hill.

Grace Emma 1910 - 1988

Grace Emma was born February 10, 1910 at 102, Navarino Mansions, Hackney. Between the age of six and twelve she attended Sigdon Road School, Hackney, which was close to the Hackney Downs Tramway Junction off Dalston Lane. She married John Henry Morris June 26, 1937 at the Parish Church of St. Mark's, Dalston. She was 27 years old and John 36, the son of George William Morris (deceased) and Ada Louise. However, this has not been established with certainty, as he gave his father's name as George WILLIAM Morris on his Marriage Certificate. There is no Birth Certificate of the correct date for John Henry Morris with a father called George William. The closest is George Henry. John was a chairmaker by trade and Grace a milliner. Witnesses to the marriage were her brother, Percy and her sister, Ivy. Their address at the time of the marriage is given as 102, Navarino Mansions, Hackney. They had 1 child. David John was born June 17, 1938 at the Salvation Army Mother's Hospital, 145-153 Lower Clapton Road, Hackney North. In October, 1939 they were renting rooms at 27, Montague Road, Hackney. In 1940 they moved to Lambourn, Berkshire, where John was employed by a company called Solia, manufacturing was essential components. The company was partly owned by Ken Hills, the husband of Grace's sister, Ivy. Grace and John rented a terraced cottage in Blind Lane belonging to the nearby Bowsher's farm, and David attended the Lambourn Church of England School from May 4, 1943 to September 2, 1945. In June, 1940, Grace was shot and seriously injured by machine gun fire from aircraft based at the nearby RAF base which were on target practise runs. The bullet entered the back of her knee and she had an emergency operation at Reading Hospial. John (always known as Jack), served in the Home Guard from August 6, 1940 to December 31, 1944. In February, 1946 he was admitted to hospital for a hernia operation, but died February 16, age 45 in Newbury District Hospital following a Pulmonary Embolism. He was buried in a common grave in Chingford Cemetery, Plot No. 45868. Following his death Grace and David stayed with Ivy and Ken in Newbury Street, Lambourn, before moving into a flat at 604, Green Lanes, Palmers Green.
On September 8, 1951, Grace married William Charles Turner at the Register Office, Wood Green, Middlesex. She was 41 years old as was William (Bill). He was a furniture salesman and living at 79, Elphinstone Road, Walthamstow. Witnesses were L.G.Wilkin (his sister) and A.Irwin. In February, 1952 they moved to 8, Clifford Road, Walthamstow, where Bill worked for the Times Furnishing Company in the High Street. David attended the Joseph Barrett Secondary Modern Boys' School. In 1961 Grace and Bill moved to 85, Picketts Avenue, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, where Bill retired. Grace had an interest in water colour and oil painting as well as writing short stories and poetry. She died February 20, 1988 age 78, in Rochford Hospital, Essex. Cause of death was Myocardial Infarction. She was buried at Sutton Road Cemetry, Southend-on-Sea, Essex, Plot No. 28221. Following his wife's death, Bill sold the house and moved to Hertfordshire where he stayed with David for a short time before taking up residence in the Abbeyfield (Society) Limited at 2, Pound Avenue, Stevenage. He died October 26, 1996 age 86 at Lister General Hospital, Stevenage. Cause of death was Bronchopneumonia and Parkinsons' Disease. He was buried in the double grave at Sutton Road Cemetry where Grace was interred.
Notes for William Charles Turner. William was born April 6, 1910 in West Ham, Newham, the son of William Charles Turner, a fur storer. He married Eliza Dorothy Stark June 27, 1936 in ther Parish Church of St. John's, Leytonstone, Essex. He joined the Royal Army Ordnance Corps at No. 1 Centre, Whipps Cross, Leyton, December 17, 1941, Army No. 10577730. He served some time in Belgium. On March 10, 1951, in the High Court of Justice, he was granted a Decree Absolute by reason that 'the Respondent had deserted the Petitioner without cause for a period of three years immediately proceeding the presentation of the Petition and had been found guilty of adultery with George Byers, the Co-Respondent'.

Ivy Doris 1913 -

Ivy was born April 8, 1913 at 102, Navarino Mansions, Hackney. She married William Kenneth Peasy-Hills April 7, 1940 in St. Edmunds Church, South Chingford, Essex. She was 26 years old and Ken 25, the son of Thomas George Hills, a labourer. Ken was living at 19, Russell Road, South Chingford and working as an engineer. Ivy was living at 35, Burnham Road, South Chingford and working as a dressmaker. Witnesses were her brother, Percy and Grace's husband, John Henry Morris. They had two children. Carole Ann was born July 6, 1944 and Linda Christine August 5, 1949.
