Emma Eugenie 1856 - 1932
Emma was born February 24, 1856 at 118, Great Guildford Street, Southwark. She married William James Poulter March 18, 1874 at the Parish Church of St. Thomas, Lambeth, Surrey. He was 24 years old and working as a labourer, the son of William Poulter (Deceased). Emma's age is wrongly given as 21. She was 18 years old. Her father, Alfred was working as a shipwright. Their address at the time of the marriage is given as 100, Westminster Bridge Road. Witnesses were James Sainsbury and Elizabeth Birks. They had (up to 1881) 4 children. William Alfred was born February 25, 1875 at 9, Crozier Street, Lambeth. James was then working as a Police Constable. Alfred was born 1877 and Arthur 1879. Alice Emma was born November 27, 1880 at 3, Zoar Street, Southwark, Surrey. James was then working as a wharf labourer. In April 1881 (Census) they were still at Zoar Street, together with their four children and James' aunt, Kate Miller. She was 45 years old and working as a launderess and James as a warehouseman. Emma died April 15, 1932 at 7, Elgin Terrace, Paddington age 76. Cause of death was Senility and Heart Failure. Her daughter, Hilda was present at the death.
Charlotte 1862 - 1924
Charlotte was born April 12, 1862 at 2, Anns Terrace, Stepney. She never married but gave birth to a son,Frederick, 20 December,1892 at 11, Sedgwick Street, Homerton. Neither the father or his occupation is given, but is believed to be one of the Rothschild banking family. Frederick died in the 1st World War. Charlotte died March 7, 1924 at St. Mary's Hospital age 61. Cause of death was Bronchopneumonia and Gangrene of the Lung. The informant was her brother-in-law, William Pickaver, who was then living with his wife, Maud at 14, Bloomfield Road, Bow. Charlotte had been employed as a domestic servant by the Hon. Nathaniel Charles Rothschild (1877-1923) and his wife Rozsita, nee Wertheimstein (1870-1940), at Arundel House, No. 4, Palace Green, Kensington. They had 3 children. Miriam Louisa was born in 1908, Elizabeth Charlotte, 1909 and Victor, 1910. Charles was the youngest son of Emma and Sir Nathaniel Mayer De Rothschild, M.P. Baronet, Merchant and Foreign Banker (1840-1915). In 1891 Charles, then 13 years old, was living with his parents at 148, Piccadily, Westminster, together with his brother, Walter, age 23, and sister, Evelina, 18. The household comprised a Governess and 20 servants. At Tring Park Mansion, Hertfordshire, their country seat, a further 5 servants were in residence. In 1916 Charles contracted sleeping sickness - then an incurable disease - which plunged him into bouts of deep depression. On October 12, 1923, at his home in Ashton, Oundle, Northamptonshire, he went to his room and committed suicide. At the Coroner's Inquest held October 13, it was certified that he cut his throat while of unsound mind. He left his estate of 2,250,000 to his wife, Roziska. Others to benifit were the Hon Francis Robert Henley and Roland Edmund Lomax Vaughan-Williams K.C. Charlotte left her effects of 76.17s.2d to her sister Beatrice Sofia. Following the death of Queen Victoria, who had been opposed to houses being built in front of Kensington Palace, those at Palace Green were built by Messers Reed/Mcdonald in 1905.
Alice 1864 - 1929
Alice was born October 3, 1864 at 2, Anns Terrace, Stepney. She married Harry Guest Kennard April 27, 1907 in the Parish Church of St. Paul, Bow Common. She was 40 years old and Harry 37, the son of James Spicer Kennard, a cork merchant. Harry was living at 29, West Side, London Fields and working as a postman. Alice was living at 11, Clemence Street, Stepney. Witnesses to the marriage were alice's sister, Beatrice Sophia and her husband, William Pickhaver. They did not have children. Alice died March 27, 1929 age 63 at 80, Clemence Street, Stepney. Cause of death was Acute Bronchitis and Myocarditis. Her husband was present at the death. Notes for Harry Kennard: Harry was born HENRY A.G. (KINNARD) in 1870 in Walthamstow, Essex. His father was born in 1841 in Lambourn, Berkshire and his mother, Theodoria, in 1842 in Tickdale, Gloucester. He had two brothers and two sisters. James (1872), Charles (1876) and Mary (1878) were all born in Walthamstow, Essex and Ethel (1881) in Clapton, Middlesex. In April 1881 (Census) the family were living at 1, Eleanor Villas, Brook Road, Hackney, London.
Arthur Wellesley 1866 - 1897
Arthur Wellesley was born November 3, 1866 at 20, Walker Street, Stepney. He joined the 4th (Royal Irish) Dragoon Guards (date not known) Regimental No. 2966. He married Esther Lynch May 11, 1889 in the Registrars Office, in the District of Nass, County Kildaire, Dublin South. He was then serving as a Corporal. Esther was the daughter of Patrick Lynch, an Army shoemaker. At the time of the marriage they were living in Newbridge. Witnesses to the marriage were his brother, Percy Edwin and Mary Lynch. They had three children, two daughters and a son. (no details). Arthur died November 15, 1897 age 32, at Peshawar, India. A Certified Entry of Death issued at the Military Station, Rawalpindi gave the cause of death as Enteric Fever (Typhoid). His rank was then a Sergeant. He received the India Medal 1895 and Clasp for Service on the Punjab Frontier, 1897. Notes: Arthur's second name is given as WINSLEY on his birth certificate but is shown as WELLESLEY on his Army records. There are no documents relating to his Army service as these were only retained when the soldier applied for a pension.
Edwin Percy 1870 - 1929
Edwin Percy was born December 9, 1870 at 1, Frederic Street, Stepney. He joined the 5th Dragoon Guards August 18, 1886 at the border town of Dundalk, Ireland, Regimental No. 3020. He gave his age as 18 years and 8 months and trade as labourer. (he was 16 years old). His parents were then living at 22, Locksley Street, Stepney. On enlistment he is described as being 5' 9" tall, weight 122lbs, chest 33 1/2". He had been a member of the Tower Hamlets Volunteer Force, of which there are no existing records. In May, 1889 he was a witness to the marriage of his brother, Arthur Wellesley to Esther Lynch in Nass, County Kildaire. He spent six years in the Army as a Private before being transferred to the 1st Class Army Reserve in February, 1893. On leaving the Army he stayed at 19, Coventry Street, Bethnal Green, the home of Carolin Dowsett's parents. Coventry Street was close to the Great Eastern Railway Line at Bethnal Green Junction Station. He married Caroline October 9, 1898 at the Parish Church of St. Phillips, Stepney. He was 27 years old and Caroline 28, the daughter of William and Emma Dowsett, and was born December 5, 1869 at 17, Type Street, Bethnal Green. Witnesses to the marriage were Edward Dowsett (her brother) and Phoebe Elizabeth Gilby (his fiancee). Edwin was then working as a mail bag sorter for the G.P.O. and living at 161, Sidney Street, Stepney. Caroline was living at 1, Hawkins Street, Stepney. Her father, William was a labourer. They had 5 children. Caroline Florence was born April 3, 1900 at 6, Edwards Road, Mile End Old Town, a rented two room first floor flat let unfurnished by the owner, William Clark. The Mile End Tramway passed close by. In July, 1900 Edwin was recalled to the Army Service and served in South Africa during the Boer War attached to the 7th Dragoon Guards. He received the South Africa Medal and three Clasps for service in Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal. In March, 1901, Caroline was living at 28, Coventry Street, Bethnal Green. She was receiving a Separation Allowance which was paid by the Army to the wifes'of soldiers who were unable to be with their husbands in married quarters. This was to compensate for the extra costs of living in private accommodation. He returned to England in October, 1901. Caroline Florence had died August 12, 1900 age 4 months at 19, Coventry Street. Cause of death was Epidemic Diarrhoea. Edwin was discharged in February, 1902 at St. Georges Barracks, SW having been found medically unfit for further service due to a "contusion of foot". He returned to work at the G.P.O. Ethel May was born January 2, 1903 at 19, Coventry Street. Percy Edwin, March 13, 1908, Grace Emma, February 10, 1910 and Ivy Doris, April 8, 1913 were all born at 102, Navarino Mansions, Dalston Lane, a tramway that intersected the Mare Street tramway into Hackney Station on the North London Railway Line. Edwin died December 15, 1929 age 59 at 102, Navarino Mansions. Cause of death was Heart Failure and Myocarditis. His son Percy was present at the death. He left his estate of 270.13s.1p to his wife. Caroline died January 1, 1940 age 71 at 35, Burnham Road, Chingford, Essex. Cause of death was Cerebal Haemorrhage and Arterio Scerosis. Her son Percy was present at the death. He was then living at 43, Montague Road, Dalston E8. She left her effects of 161.18s.8p to Percy. Edwin and Caroline were married for 31 years.

Maud Constance 1873 - 1941
Maud Constance was born April 15, 1873 at 1, Frederic Street, Stepney. She married William Henry Pickaver December 13, 1902 at the District Church of St. Paul, Bow Common. She was 27 years old and William 23, son of James Rowe Pickhaver, an engine driver. William was working as a credit drapers agent and living at 8, Walker Street, Stepney. Maud was living at 20, Burgess Street, Stepney. Witnesses to the marriage were her brother, Edwin and sister, Beatrice. They had (up to 1914) 6 children. Victoria Maud Alice was born October 29, 1903 at 11, Clemence Street, Stepney. Beatrice Phobe was born January 30, 1906 at 58, Bloomfield Road, Mile End Old Town. Clarence Wellesley was born November 5, 1907 at 1, Streatfield Street, Stepney.Irene Maud Constance September 19, 1909. May Elsie, May 4, 1911 and William Frederick James, July 13, 1914 were all born at 14, Bloomfield Road, Mile End Old Town. From 1906 to 1914 William was working as a white lead grinder. William died March 7, 1935 age 53 at Bancroft Lodge, Bancroft Road, Stepney. Cause of death was Cerebral Softening, Cerebral Thrombosis and Cerebral Arteris Sclerosis. The informant was his son Clarence, who was then living at 14, Bloomfield Road. Maud died December 4, 1941 at Forest Hospital, Buckhurst Hill, Chigwell age 66. Cause of death was Haemothorax and Mediastinal Carinoma. She had been living at 1, Forest Edge, Buckhurst Hill. The informant was her son Clarence, who was then living at 69, Kingsbridge Road. Morden. Note: William Pickhaver was born September 21, 1881 at 39, Walker Street, Stepney, the son of James Rowe Pickhaver and Eliza Ann (nee Taylor). He was given the name of John Henry, but after registration his name was changed to William Henry. His father was then a stoker in a lead works.
Beatrice Sophia 1879 - 1960
Beatrice Sophia was born February 26, 1879 at 21, Henry Street, Stepney. Seven months after the death of her sister, Alice, Beatrice married her ex brother-in-law Harry Kennard October 4, 1929 in the Register Office, Stepney. Beatrice was 50 years old and Harry 59. He was still working as a postman and they were both living at 80, Clemence Street, Stepney.Witnesses to the marriage were her sister, Maud and her husband William Pickhaver. They had no children. Harry died October 27, 1945 at Redhill Hospital, Edgware age 75. Cause of death was Uraemia (Renal Failure), Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy and Bronca Pnumonia. The informant was his widow, Beatrice, who was then living at 50, Finchley Lane, Hendon. Beatrice died May 15, 1960 at Edgware General Hospital, Hendon age 80. Cause of death was Cerebral Thrombosis and Bronchopnuemonia. The informant was her niece, Victoria Buggey (Maud's married daughter), who was living at 178, Forest Edge, Buckhurst Hill, Essex.
